John King Art
John King works as an independent art director and music producer which includes everything from motion pictures to interior and exterior design as well as private and public sculpture. His mother worked in the industrial glass industry specializing in plate and auto glass manufacturing and his father was both a renowned stained glass maker and a contemporary glass sculpture artist. From a young age, he worked as an apprentice for his father, learning traditional styles of art glass as well as new techniques such as blasting, slumping, lamenting, chipping and fusing. He has received recognition for his sculptures blending glass and photography and has developed a technique using etched glass to project images on the areas around the sculptures by manipulating the shadows.
The majority of his work today focuses on recycled and re-used glass due to originally having a limited budget. This necessity forced him to create new and alternative styles using discarded glass in order to be able to make his work.
King usually concentrates on themes surrounding Beauty & Love, and also on the ever changing, sometimes blissful, sometimes painful, and always confusing relationship between lovers.
in 2003 Mr. King became the first invited artist to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum in venice Italy. In 2010, his work was featured in the New Albany Indiana Bicentennial Public Sculpture Project.
