the gallery singers
recording songs for about a decade, the gallery singers is fronted by louisville is for lovers coordinator john king. over the years has played and recorded with many great artists.
although the louisville is for lovers series is king’s main focus, it does allow him to meet and collaborate with many talented musicians including pat and tommy of my morning jacket(2007), kevin of wax fang (2000-current), dom and michael of dead child/phantom family halo (2006), carrie of second story man (2004-2006), shawna and jason, of iamis/the slow break, kenny of buffalo bill, and the talented stand up bass player, pual bass. these days the gallery singers are backed mainly by the incredibly talented J Perry (of The Deloreans) and Roadie (Arnett Hollow).
the story of the gallery singers is a quiet one. born in 1999 while king worked at nights as a janitor at the historic water tower museum located on the ohio river, king would push an old upright piano out of storage into the main showroom, and sing songs about being sad and young.
as the frontman for the popular electro breakdance group, team totoro, king thought his alter ego as a singer of quiet piano waltz’s would be best served anonymous. the first GS songs were gritty one track songs recorded on anything that held sound. after moving in with the acclaimed band, elliott, their drummer kevin began playing with and recording the GS. this influence gave king the confidence he needed to mature his songs into the durgy, waltzy, sorta creepy, kinda blue, gallery singers sound known today.
of corse the GS sound changes with every song, as the ever revolving cast of members inject their own influences, constantly changing, and always evolving the GS sound, and possibly even king himself.
the gallery singers have appeared on almost all of the louisville is for lovers releases, including louisville babylon and the ziggy stardust tribute album, t.r.a.f.o.z.s.a.t.s.f.m.
